AMT, Advanced Maritime Transports SA was founded in 1998 by Mr. Alain Vedrines and Necotrans SA., Paris, France, as a Swiss freight forwarding & logistic company in Nyon, Switzerland, a small town, situated about 30 km from Geneva on the shore of Lake Geneva. AMT provides mainly international freight forwarding services, custom's brokerage, ship's agency services and coastal shipping services for the oil & gas industry in Africa.

First the company commenced trading in the West African oil producing countries, that is Angola, Congo, Gabon, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria and Ghana. In 2011 AMT has expanded to the East Coast of Africa and opened two offices in Mozambique, one administrative office in Maputo, the capital (before Lourenco Marques) and one operations office in Pemba (before Porto Amelia). In the West African ports, AMT works with the local agency network GETMA.

Along the West African coast AMT operates its own coastal shipping service for the oil & gas industry, using one own landing craft, the AMT I and a chartered vessel the UAL TYCOON. This service covers mainly the ports between Angola and Ghana, with Pointe Noire as the regional hub. Last year a new landing craft was ordered from a Turkish shipyard and was delivered in January 2013. The AMT II will be employed for coastal trade in West Africa. These vessels are operated directly from the head office in Nyon. The technical aspects of the owned ships are looked after by ABCmaritime in Nyon.

End of last year the company has inaugurated a new cargo service along the coast of Mozambique and Tanzania, using a chartered, local landing craft. In the sea region around Cape Delgado on the border between Tanzania and Mozambique prospection and drilling for gas has commenced in recent years.

The head office in a modern office building in Nyon employs today about 70 people. Further to make these services work, own offices are strategically located over the world, in Europe an office is in Aberdeen UK and one in Antwerp, then there are offices in Houston USA, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and in Singapore.
