The SARDIS with hull number 034 is the first of a pair of utility vessels (small offshore supply vessels), constructed by the Gelibolu Gemi Insa Kizaklari Koll. Sti. (Gelibolu Shipyard), Gelibolu, Turkey. The owners Sardis Shipping Ltd., Kingstown allocated the building supervision and the commercial and technical management of the vessel to ABCmaritime in Nyon, Switzerland. The keel of the SARDIS was laid down on 17.04.2007 and the hull was launched on 10.11.2007. On 30.01.2008 the sea trials were conducted, achieving a maximum speed of 12.7 knots. On 05.02.2008 the ship was delivered to her owners and on 12.02.2008 she commenced her transit voyage to Pointe Noire, Congo. The SARDIS sails under the flag of St. Vincent and The Grenadines, home port Kingstown. IMO No.: 9416903 (Official No.: 10290, call sign: J8B3817).

The SARDIS is named after the historical ruins of the town of Sardis, about 75 km east of Izmir in Turkey. Sardis was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Lydia and was probably destroyed in 1402 by Timur Khan (Tamerlan).

The ship is 48 m long and has a dead weight of 756 metric tonnes. With a "4-point mooring system", the ship can be anchored within a few meters from a platform. The working deck has an area of 220 m2 and a crane of 10 metric tonnes capacity at an outreach of 12 m is installed.

Propulsion is provided by two 16-cylinder Cummins diesel engines, type: KTA-50 of 2x1600 BHP, driving 2 CP-propellers via 2 reduction / reversing gear boxes. A bow thruster of 200 kW is installed. Three diesel generators sets from Volo-Penta of 250 kW each and one emergency diesel generator of 67 kW supply the electrical power (A.C., 3-phase, 380/220 V, 50 Hz). The generators have sufficient capacity to supply electrical power to small, unmanned oil rigs during maintenance and repair works (for example to drive the platform crane)

For fire fighting on platforms or on other vessels, the vessel is equipped with 2 fire monitors on the observation deck (monkey island) which are remote controlled from the wheel house. The monitors have a capacity of 2x1200 m3/h of water, if necessary foam can be added. The water is supplied by 2 large fire pumps, driven off the forward end of the main engines. On each side of the deck house a dispersant spray boom is fitted to combat oil pollution.

The crew complement is 12 persons and in addition accommodations are provided for 22 oil workers.

The SARDIS is employed in time charter by an oil company and works offshore of Pointe Noire in the Republic of Congo. Her first job was to install an underwater electrical cable between two oil rigs in a water depth of about 100 m.
